TRO Technician
About the job
Salary: £25,989 – £39,152 a year plus £963 essential car user allowance
Hours per week: 37
Contract type: Permanent
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) Technician to join Luton Borough Council’s Network & Safety team.
In this role, you will support the delivery and maintenance of traffic management and parking schemes across the borough. You will assist engineers and technicians in producing technical drawings and plans using AutoCAD and Parkmap systems, while also supporting a range of traffic and parking-related projects.
The role includes carrying out traffic, parking and topographical surveys, processing applications for on-street disabled parking bays, and maintaining accurate records and correspondence using FLARE databases. You will also be responsible for posting, inspecting, maintaining and removing Traffic Regulation Order notices across the borough and ensuring associated records are kept up to date.
You will support the maintenance and updating of the Parkmap GIS system for parking and waiting restrictions and assist with the investigation and initial design of traffic management and road safety schemes. In addition, the role includes responsibility for operating and maintaining equipment used to produce public TRO notices.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and an interest in highways, traffic management, or engineering services to gain valuable experience within a busy local authority environment.
Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.
About you
We are looking for someone with experience of working within a technical office environment who is organised, proactive, and able to manage a varied workload effectively.
You will be able to communicate confidently and professionally, dealing with straightforward enquiries and taking accurate messages where more complex matters need to be referred to colleagues within Highway Services.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate competence in the use of AutoCAD systems and GIS mapping systems, alongside strong IT and keyboard skills, including the use of word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic file management systems.
You should have good organisational skills with the ability to work to deadlines and meet targets, as well as strong literacy skills to produce clear correspondence and maintain accurate work-related records. Basic numeracy skills are also essential.
We are looking for someone who understands the importance of equality, diversity, and inclusion, and who can demonstrate awareness of the impact discrimination can have on both service delivery and the people we work with.
A recognised qualification in AutoCAD is desirable.
The role will require you to travel regularly to engineering sites across the borough and occasionally beyond, therefore the ability to do so is essential.
